This Asiatic Style Funeral Urn is truly a piece of art made by a Montreal ceramic artist.
The piece is individually hand thrown. Raku is an ancient ceramic art form originating in Japan. Pots are quickly removed from the kiln when glowing red, approximately 1800 degrees. They are immediately sealed in a can of leaves or paper where they erupt into flame. The unique patterns of metallic colors in the glaze result from the flame, smoke and rapid cooling. The work reflects the unpredictable nature of the firing. You will love this unique work of art to celebrate the life of your loved one. This cremation urn can be used as a companion urn for ashes.

A Canadian Artist will custom create and infuse glass using a small amount of your loved one's ashes, making a one of a kind piece for you and your family to cherish for years. As with any custom creation, your product may vary slightly from the images shown. Your loved ones ashes, sometimes create small bubbles inside your memorial. We like to call them Spirit Bubbles. Each piece will vary depending on how the ashes interact with the glass and heat.
Once the ashes are received by the artist, they carefully sift a small amount onto a metal plate. 2100 degree glass is then gathered out of the furnace, onto a rod, and the molten glass is rolled over the ashes on the metal plate. The glass cooled slightly before more molten glass is gathered over the ashes, which encases the ashes inside the glass. It is then placed into an oven to cool and strengthen.
Narrow rods of glass are melted with the flame tip of a torch. The molten glass is wound around a mandrel (thin, stainless steel rod). The removal of this mandrel will therefore leave a hole through the center, creating a bead. While the glass is around the mandrel it is turned into different positions to enable it to take shape.
